BGE, Inc., a nationwide engineering consulting firm that provides services in civil engineering, planning, construction phase administration, and environmental services for public and private clients, is looking to hire a Senior Travel Demand Modeler in the State of Texas. The Senior Travel Demand Modeler should have a strong multimodal planning background with a minimum of eight years of progressive experience in model development and application (four-step and activity-based models), demographic and land use analysis, statistical analysis, geographic information system (GIS) projects, and long-range regional planning.
Research and project experience in complex travel behavior models, traffic flow theory, origin and destination trip patterns, big data analysis, forecasting future year travel and developing traffic projections defines this role. Advanced modeling skills in TransCAD or Cube Voyager is required along with understanding of other software tools.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a closely related field
- Master’s degree in Urban Planning, GIS, Geography or Transportation Engineering/Planning preferred
- Minimum 8 years of experience working with travel demand models (10 years of experience preferred)
- Proficiency in at least one travel demand model environment with exposure to others (e.g. TransCAD, Cube Voyager)
- Programming experience in Python (pandas, NumPy), R, VB, GISDK, or other model scripting languages or other programming languages
- Ability to plan, organize and manage the technical components of a travel demand modeling project
- Specific technical training in and experience with statistics and statistical packages, geographic information systems (GIS), travel demand models
- Experience in carrying out travel demand model estimation, calibration and validation
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in the production of model documentation and technical reports
- Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong oral and written communications skills

Responsibilities
- Assist with the designs of travel model architecture customized to meet transportation analysis objectives in the state or metropolitan area under study
- Statistically analyzes household and transit onboard travel survey data in order to develop model parameters and estimate model
- Works with and creates CUBE Voyager and TransCAD GISDK scripts
- Performs computer programming related to travel demand modeling and traffic analysis
- Conducting statistical analyses of travel survey and passively-collected transportation data
- Defines variables, coefficients, and constants to estimate a model likely to replicate observed transportation system travel behavior
- Using iterative testing, calibrates the model coefficients to produce statistically reliable results to match target confidence and error levels based on project objectives
- Using the calibrated model, validates the model to existing conditions to insure performance
- Develop macros and scripts to execute individual model components, manage input-output data handling among the models and provide a user interface to organize output data into exhibits and reports to provide results in a format designed to meet analysis objectives
- Applies the models to forecast future transportation system performance under varying conditions and project scenarios to test the feasibility and economic viability of major highway and transit infrastructure projects
