The Position

The highly rated Lake Oswego Public library is seeking a full-time Librarian (40 hours a week) to join its team of committed, enthusiastic and creative professionals who strive to provide excellent customer service. Under the supervision of the Library Manager for the Adult Services section, the individuals in these positions will work with colleagues to fulfill the library’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs materials selection/collection development duties, including reviewing and evaluating materials and performing needs analysis to determine additions to collection.
  • Performs reference and readers advisory duties including assisting patrons of all ages in the use of library collections through the reference interview and instruction in the use of library catalogs, indexes, databases, downloadable and streaming resources, and print resources. 
  • Develops and coordinates programs, special events and displays.   
  • Collaborates with community partners to develop special programs and expand the library’s reach to underserved populations.
  • Participates as a team member in departmental meetings and planning activities.
  • Assists with special projects and library research as assigned by the department manager.

This position is represented by the Lake Oswego Municipal Employees’ Association/ American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). 



Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation with a Master’s degree in Library Science, Educational Media, or an equivalent level of education and work experience. Candidates should have excellent organization, presentation and communication skills; the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with other employees and the public. Must be able to work evenings and weekends. This position is subject to mandatory participation in electronic funds transfer (EFT) for payment of net wages (i.e., Direct Deposit or PayCard).

Supplemental Information

Annual Salary Range (4% Cost of living increase anticipated for 2022-2023):
Librarian I - $47,717 - $60,904
Librarian II - $57,639 - $73,572
